Four people were believed to have suffered injuries after a multi-vehicle accident west of U.S. Highway 40 and Kansas Highway 10 Sunday evening, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.A report from the KHP says a Saturn Ion driven by Justin David Rupnicki, 27, of Topeka, was on U.S. Highway 40 and stopped to turn south on East 800 Road around 5:50 p.m. Sunday.

The vehicle was reportedly struck from behind by a GMC Yukon XL driven by Jamie Lee Guenther, 39, of Overbrook.

The collision forced the Ion into oncoming traffic, according to the report. An eastbound Chevrolet G1500 van driven by Ryan A. Lisher, 25, of Lawrence, reportedly struck the Ion; it then spun and struck a Chevrolet Impala driven by 27-year-old Katelyn Renee Soules, of Lawrence.

Rupnicki and two of the Ion’s passengers — Danielle Renee Kaler, 27, of Topeka, and Anthony Maximin, 9, of Topeka — reportedly suffered serious injuries and were transported to Stormont Vail hospital in Topeka. A third passenger, Arianny Sulin, 8, of Topeka, reportedly suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.

Guenther, Lisher and Soules reportedly suffered no injuries, nor did a passenger in Lisher’s vehicle, 24-year-old James Ryan Cornett, of Lawrence. All involved were wearing safety restraints, according to the report.
