Abilene, TX : One person killed in a three-vehicle accident near Aspermont Friday afternoon, April 7, 2017
A man was killed in a three-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon near Aspermont.
According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Stephen Lloyd Fitts, 69, of Spur, was pronounced dead at the scene at the intersection of U.S. 380 and U.S. 83, shortly after 1:30 p.m.
A DPS news release stated a tractor/trailer truck with a fracking pump was stopped in the eastbound lane of U.S. 380, waiting to make a left turn onto US-83 northbound. Fitts' pickup was stopped behind it. Another tractor/trailer struck the pickup from behind, pushing the pickup into the back of the first tractor/trailer. The pickup then caught fire.
Gerry Don Rudolph, 35, of Graham, driver of the first tractor/trailer was taken to Aspermont Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Michael Vaughan Marler, 38, of Edmond, Oklahoma, driver of the second tractor/trailer was treated and released from the Aspermont hospital
The crash remains under investigation
