Rehoboth, DE : Millsboro man dies after crashing into state police caron on Thursday 15th September 2016
A 77-year-old Millsboro man died Sept. 15 following a crash near Dover with a state police car.
The man was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Aveo at about 6 p.m. northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 1 when he crashed head-on into a Delaware State Police car, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
A 22-year-old trooper was driving a fully marked 2012 Chevrolet Caprice near exit 98 when the vehicles collided. The 77-year-old man was not properly restrained and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s family dog also died in the crash, Fournier said.
The 22-year-old male trooper was properly restrained and was airlifted by Delaware State Police Aviation to Christiana Medical Center where he is currently admitted with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor. Route 1 southbound was closed at Exit 104 for four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
