Topeka, KS : Motorcyclists injured in 2-vehicle crash in south Topeka on Friday, February 17, 2017
Two people sustained serious injuries Friday after the motorcycle on which they were riding crashed, Topeka police said.
Police and emergency medical personnel were called about 5:20 p.m. to the crash that involved a pickup truck and a motorcycle in the 3200 block of S.W. Topeka Boulevard.
Police Lt. Robert Simmons said first responders found two injured people in the street, one of whom was the motorcycle’s driver while the other was a passenger.
Both people were taken to a local hospital by American Medical Response ambulance for treatment, Simmons said.
A Shawnee County emergency communications dispatcher said both people who had been riding the motorcycle were transported with triage code red, which denotes critical injuries. Simmons in a news release said only that their conditions were “stable.”
Both northbound lanes of S.W. Topeka Boulevard remained closed at the crash scene for some time while police investigated, as did one southbound lane. A silver pickup truck involved in the crash appeared to be parked in the center of the outside northbound lane and didn’t appear to have sustained serious damage.
The truck’s occupants weren’t injured, Simmons said.
The motorcycle remained on its side in the inside lane as of 6:20 p.m. It wasn’t clear whether officers were waiting for a tow service to remove it.
