Man killed when car hits wall near Altamonte Springs

A 46-year-old Leesburg man was killed Thursday when his car hit a wall on Interstate 4 in Seminole County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The man, whose name was not released, was driving on the paved shoulder about 5:45 p.m. when his westbound 2003 Chevrolet Malibu veered onto the grass shoulder, hit a concrete pole and then struck a concrete barrier wall, troopers said.

The crash happened at West Central Parkway, between Semoran Boulevard and State Road 434.Troopers are investigating why the man was driving on the shoulder and what caused the apparent accident.
Traffic was tied up for several hours after the crash.
