Fleming Island, FL : 79-year-old man killed in 4-vehicle crash on U.S. 17 near Eagle Harbor Parkway on Tuesday evening, March 1, 2016

An elderly man was killed in a four-vehicle crash on U.S. 17 near Eagle Harbor Parkway in Fleming Island Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Clemente Ainza, 79, of Fleming Island.

About 7 p.m., a Ford Edge came to a stop in the center media of U.S. 17 at Denmark Road when the driver attempted to cross the northbound lanes but struck the side of a passing Acura MDX driven by Ainza, according to FHP. The Acura then overturned across all three southbound lanes and collided with the front of a Chevrolet Tahoe and the back corner of a GMC Canyon.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics with the Clay County Fire Rescue Department.

The 17-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center Clay County with minor injuries, according to FHP.

Troopers say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
