Chesterton, IN : Woman dies in crash on US 20 in Burns Harbor on Sunday, March 5, 2017

A woman who died on Sunday when she lost control of her vehicle on U.S. Highway 20 in Burns Harbor has not yet been identified, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris told the Chesterton Tribune today.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m.
Burns Harbor Town Marshal Mike Heckman said that the woman had just exited westbound I-94 and was westbound on U.S. 20 when her vehicle left the roadway to the north and entered a ditch, then struck a utility box, flipped onto its roof, and collided with another vehicle parked in the Bosak Chevrolet dealership at 239 U.S. 20.
The Burns Harbor and Chesterton fire departments both responded to the scene for what CFD Capt. Rudy Jimenez described as a “very involved” extrication.
The woman was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene at 3:13 p.m., Harris said.
As of this morning the woman had not been positively identified, Heckman said, but she’s believed to have been a resident of LaPorte County. The Portage Police Department is handling the crash reconstruction, Heckman added.
No autopsy has been scheduled and the results of a routine toxicology screen are pending, Harris added.
