AMITE, LA : Hammond woman hit killed by vehicle while walking along highway after crash on Sunday, 6th October 2024

A Hammond woman was killed Sunday morning, Oct. 6, while walking along the roadway on I-55 near LA Hwy 16 in Tangipahoa Parish. Officials say it happened around 6:45 a.m.

According to Louisiana State Police, Cierra Porche, 29, was involved in a crash with another vehicle while traveling northbound in the left lane. Officials say Porche’s vehicle, a 2007 Saturn Vue, crossed into the right lane and struck the rear left side of a 2022 Ford Edge that was traveling northbound in the right lane. As a result, the Ford came to rest in the median, while the Saturn stopped in the right northbound lane’s ditch.

Following the crash, authorities say Porche exited her vehicle and walked from the right side of the roadway to the median. LSP says while walking into the left lane on I-55 after leaving the median, Porche was struck by a 2022 GMC 2500 which was traveling northbound in the left lane.
