COLUMBIA, MO : Man sentenced for crash that killed Harrisburg teacher on Tuesday, 11th September 2018

A 27-year-old central Missouri man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for a fatal school bus crash.

A Boone County judge on Tuesday sentenced Brandon Brill, of Clark, to 22 years in prison for the September 2017 crash that killed 37-year-old Brian Simpson, a Harrisburg teacher and cross-country coach.Brill pleaded guilty in July to first-degree involuntary manslaughter and second degree-assault.

Investigators say Simpson was driving students to a track meet when Brill's pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the Harrisburg bus, which overturned and caught on fire.

Simpson died at the scene and five students were taken to the hospital.

Brill said he had worked more than 100 hours before the crash and was driving home from a 16-hour shift at a Centralia nursing home.
