Tucson, AZ : Motorcyclist killed in overnight collision on West Ajo Way on Saturday, November 12th 2016
A motorcyclist is dead after striking a roadway barrier head-on Saturday night on West Ajo Way west of Interstate 19, according to a news release from the Tucson Police Department.
The victim was riding east just before 1 a.m., approaching West Ajo Way and South Kostka Avenue when he struck the barrier and was thrown from his 1997 Yamaha motorcycle, according to the release.
He was taken to Banner -University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries several hours after his arrival.
Speed appears to have been a factor. A helmet was found at the scene, but it was unclear whether the victim was wearing it at the time of the collision, the release said.
The area west of Ajo Way at Interstate 19 is under heavy construction due to the building of a new interchange.
The victim’s name was withheld, pending next of kin notification.
