Arcadia, FL : Bradenton woman injured after being hit by a car in DeSoto County on Sunday night, December 13, 2015

A Bradenton woman was critically injured after she was struck by a car in DeSoto County on Sunday night.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol:

Jennifer Elaine Suggs, 29, of Bradenton was riding a bicycle northbound on SW Shores Avenue just south of SW Angus Street. Suggs' bike did not have lights and she was not wearing a reflective vest.

A Ford van driven by Joe Palafox, 22, of Arcadia was traveling northbound on SW Shores Avenue. Just as Palafox approached the bicycle, a vehicle passed in the southbound lanes with its bright lights on, making it difficult to see the bicyclist. The van collided with the bicycle from behind.

Suggs, who was not wearing a helmet, was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with critical injuries.

No charges were filed in the accident.
