Harford Twp., PA : Three dead and three injured in Susquehanna County crash on Saturday, October 22, 2016

Three people were killed and three more hospitalized after a wreck Saturday involving a tractor-trailer and a Nissan Altima in Harford Twp., Susquehanna County, authorities said.

The crash happened when the Freightliner rig struck the car from behind at 3:07 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81, state police at Gibson said. The collision happened at mile marker 212.8.

Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland said Alicia Stocks, 25, Rockaway, New York — the driver of the car — died in the trauma center at Geisinger Community Medical Center.

There were also two children fatally injured, he said.

State police said two of five people in the Nissan were pronounced dead at the scene; the other two people in the car, along with the driver of the Freightliner, were taken to the hospital.

Police declined to release the names of those involved in the crash pending notification of families but indicated they will release more information as the investigation continues.

The car sustained “major damage” in the crash, while the truck sustained “moderate damage,” police said.

Troopers described the truck driver’s injuries as minor.
