Raleigh, N.C : Passenger killed when car slams into guardrail in downtown Raleigh early Friday, November 11, 2016

A 21-year-old man was killed early Friday when the car he was riding in went out of control and slammed into a guardrail in downtown Raleigh, police said.

Dominick Antoine Downing, 24, of Cary, was southbound on South Dawson Street at about 2:30 a.m. when he lost control of his a 2008 Honda sedan as it crossed the intersection of South Dawson and Cabarrus streets, police said. The car slid sideways, striking a curb and then a guardrail, which penetrated the passenger area of the vehicle.

Kaylen Lamaar Downing, 21, of Raleigh, who was in the front passenger seat, was thrown from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dominick Downing received life-threatening injuries and was transported to WakeMed, police said.
