A La Plata man was killed Wednesday morning in an accident on U.S. Highway 63.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Richard W. Martin, 61, of La Plata, was pronounced dead following the crash on the highway.

According to the report, Martin was traveling eastbound around 10:15 a.m. when his vehicle pulled into the path of a van that was traveling northbound on 63 near La Plata.

Martin was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash, the report stated.

The driver of the van received moderate injuries from the accident and was taken to the Northeast Regional Medical Center.
