A father is dead and a teen is facing charges after a car slammed into a house in downtown Raleigh early on Friday, according to Raleigh police.
The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. at a house located at 805 E. Lenoir Street. Police said the car slammed into the home that had one adult male, identified as 42-year-old Anthony Joseph Gaines, and two kids inside. The man inside the home was killed, but the two children only suffered minor injuries. They were treated at WakeMed and released.
“Raleigh send EMS. Got a vehicle 10-50 through house,” said one emergency responder in radio traffic released Friday. “I’ve got injured occupants inside the house. I can’t see through the dust.”
10-50 is a radio code for an accident.
According to police, the incident occurred after an officer was passed on westbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard by a car traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to stop the car on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near State Street, but the suspect turned north onto State Street and sped off.
