CORNERSVILLE, TN : 5 injured in crash on I-65 South in Giles County on Sunday, 7th July 2024
Five people were injured after the van they were riding in overturned on Interstate 65 in northern Giles County on Sunday afternoon, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said.
The crash occurred about 4:15 p.m. near mile marker 21.6 on I-65 South, just south of the Cornersville exit.
Troopers said Rosalva Valasquez Cruz, 28, of Alabama, was traveling south when the left rear tire blew out. Cruz overcorrected and traveled off the right side of the roadway and through a ditch at an angle. The vehicle overturned and landed on its roof.
Cruz was traveling with four children, ages 10, 7, 6 and 3. According to the preliminary report, the rear passengers were not wearing restraints and were ejected from the vehicle. The child restraint device for the 3-year-old was not fastened, according to troopers. Three medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene.
