HAUULA, HI : 1 dead and 2 injured in Hau'ula crash on Tuesday, January, 9th 2018
Police believe speed contributed to a fatal accident that killed an 18-year-old man Tuesday morning in Hau'ula.
Police say a 27-year-old man was speeding before he crashed a pickup truck into a tree on Hau'ula Homestead Road around 4:20 a.m.
The driver and two passengers were trapped in the truck and were freed using the "jaws of life." The 18-year-old front-seat passenger was rushed to Kahuku Medical Center, where he later died, according to police. The driver and 22-year-old female passenger were taken to The Queen's Medical Center initially in critical condition, but police on scene tell Island News their conditions were upgraded to serious. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
Police have opened a negligent homicide case. All three occupants are believed to be related. This is the fourth fatal traffic accident on O'ahu this year compared to one at the same time last year.
