Owensville, IN : Driver killed Converted bus crash in SW Indiana on Saturday morning, August 16, 2014
An Illinois man has died after the converted school bus he was driving struck a tree in southwest Indiana.
Gibson County Coroner Barrett Doyle said Harold E. Tubbs, 72, of Fairfield, Illinois, died in the crash Saturday morning.
Sgt. Bruce Vanoven of the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office said Tubbs was driving a 2001 International school bus that had been modified to haul watermelons.
Vanoven said the bus veered off Indiana 165 near Owensville and Tubbs overcorrected, sending the vehicle across both lanes of traffic and into the tree.
Tubbs died at the scene of the crash about 20 miles northwest of Evansville.
Only Tubbs was aboard the bus at the time, Vanoven said.
