ASHEBORO, NC : Driver in Old County Farm Road crash dies on Thursday, 20th September 2018

The driver in a wreck on Old County Farm Road has died.

Master Trooper Brandon Baker of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Cynthia Jean Kulan Hopkins, 45, of Sophia, died Thursday from her injuries.

According to a press release, a 2005 Cadillac SUV was traveling north on Old County Farm Road, carrying a driver and a passenger, about 2:40 p.m. The SUV traveled off the roadway to the right, struck a ditch and ditch culvert. The vehicle then overturned, ejected the driver and came to rest on the shoulder.

Hopkins, who was driving, was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro for life-threatening injuries. A passenger, Robert Lloyd Hopkins, 53, of Sophia, was also transported to Moses Cone where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of Hopkins departing from her lane is still under investigation.

Hopkins was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt, which significantly impacted the injuries she received, the report stated.
