Hesperia, CA : Motorcyclist dies after crash on Main Street in San Bernardino County on MOnday evening, March 28, 2016

A motorcyclist died after a crash on Main Street on Monday evening, authorities said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner said Charles James Lovell, 60, of Hesperia, sustained major injuries when the Suzuki motorcycle he was operating was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and Timberlane Avenue just before 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said in a Tuesday news release three vehicles, including the motorcycle, were involved in the crash. Deputies found that a gray Kia Optima was headed south on Timberlane Avenue and failed to stop at the stop sign at Main Street. The Optima entered the intersection and broadsided Lovell on the motorcycle, who was headed west on Main Street.

The collision caused Lovell to be thrown from his bike and land in a driveway of a home, authorities said. The Kia continued through the intersection and struck a third vehicle, a gold Toyota Camry, that was headed east on Main Street.

The Major Accident Investigation Team was requested and responded to the incident. Main Street was closed between Camphor and Timberlane for more than six hours, and traffic was forced to use Walnut as a detour until the streets were reopened at about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday. Lovell was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 7:47 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff-Coroner said.

The drivers of the other vehicles had complaints of pain. They were treated at the scene by the San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel and released. No other injuries were reported.
The crash is still under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team, authorities said.
