Orrington, ME : Traffic rerouted after serious crash in Orrington on Saturday, September 13, 2014
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious crash in Orrington that left the driver of a sport utility vehicle with serious injuries. The extent of the driver’s injuries have not been CONFIRMED.
Neighbors performed CPR on the driver before ambulances arrived, according to witnesses. Neighbors who saw the aftermath of the crash say the driver of another vehicle involved in the crash drove off after striking the SUV from behind as it was sitting in traffic, waiting to turn left. Those neighbors asked not to be identified.
There was a long pair of skid marks leading up the the spot where the impact happened and a patch of glass and debris at the end of those marks. The crash appeared to send the SUV careening into the porch of a nearby home. The SUV came to rest in a front yard at the opposite side of the street.
Police, who were still investigating at the scene, have not CONFIRMED the hit and run or whether they’re actively looking for another vehicle. Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Matheson said he would release more details in the near future.
The crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of 420 River Road, also known as Route 15, in Orrington. Traffic is being diverted down Snows Corner Road, onto Dow Road, then onto Johnson Mill Road, then onto Center Drive before traffic rejoins Route 15.
Three ambulances were on scene, but they left shortly after noon without lights or sirens. The Orrington Fire Department has blocked off the road in the area of the crash.
