Springfield, MA : One person injured in a single-car accident in Chicopee on Thursday afternoon, September 22, 2016

One person was injured in a single-car accident Thursday afternoon.

A driver struck a light pole at about 2 p.m. on East Main Street by New York Avenue. One person in the car was brought to the hospital by ambulance, said Michael Wilk, public information officer for the Chicopee Police Department.

The impact caused the engine and other parts to be thrown from the car. Police closed East Main Street for a time so the street could be cleared, he said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, he said.
