Isleton, CA : Two people have died in a three-vehicle crash at Highway 12 East of Brannan Island Road On Friday, May 27th, 2016

Two people have died in a crash involving three vehicles on Highway 12 in Isleton, the California Highway Patrol said in a press release Saturday.
Officers responded to a report of a three-vehicle crash around 10:21 p.m. Friday on Highway 12, just east of Brannan Island Road near the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, officials said. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles

involved.

The 35-year-old driver in a 1998 Oldsmobile was driving eastbound on Highway 12 at a high speed, passing traffic over the double yellow lines when he crashed head-on into a 65-year-old driver of a 2011 Chevrolet, who was driving westbound on

the highway, officers said. The driver of the Chevrolet died.

The 48-year-old driver of a 2007 Honda was driving westbound on the highway when she saw the Chevrolet and crashed into the rear as she was unable to stop, officials said. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Officials said they believe the impact of the Honda crashing into the rear of the Chevrolet may have caused the Oldsmobile to veer toward the south roadway edge, stopping against the concrete wall bordering the south roadway edge and caught

fire.

Witnesses tried to save the driver of the Oldsmobile from the burning vehicle, but were unable to do so and he died, officials said.

Highway 12 was shut down in both directions for about five hours for investigation and clean-up.
