Deland. FL : 36-year-old man dead in a hit-and-run accident near DeLan on Saturday night, November 22, 2014
Troopers were looking for the driver in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 36-year-old man riding a bicycle Saturday night near DeLand, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The name of the victim, who lives in DeLand, has not been released pending notification of his family. The man was headed northbound on his bicycle on Woodland Boulevard near Sago Circle about 5:44 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Avalon traveling north in the outside lane, the FHP said. The Toyota’s front-right hit the bicyclist, knocking him into some bushes 30 feet away. The car dragged the bicycle for a short distance, troopers said.
The bicyclist’s body was not found until just after 7 p.m.
The Toyota Avalon was described by witnesses as gray or dark-colored. Troopers believe the car was damaged on the right front and right headlight.
