JACKSON, MS : JPD officer injured in hit-and-run released from hospital on Wednesday, 2nd May 2018

A Jackson Police Officer injured during a hit-and-run Wednesday evening on Briarwood Drive is out of the hospital and recovering. The driver of the vehicle, 41-year-old Kamar Jibiri Watts, was later taken into custody and arrested for several traffic violations, including driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident.

The accident occurred at the intersection Briarwood Drive and Interstate 55 West Frontage Road.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m. an on-duty officer was traveling on Briarwood Drive when a second vehicle collided with the officer. The suspect vehicle, which was believed to have run the traffic light, left the scene following the collision and was observed traveling to a nearby business.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries but none appeared to be life-threatening.
