COLUMBIA, SC : Nine killed on S.C. roads over Christmas holiday on Tuesday, December 27th 2016
Nine people were killed on South Carolina roadways during the Christmas holiday period, which ran from 6 p.m., on Dec. 23 to 12 a.m., on Dec. 27, according to information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
One of the fatal crashes took place in Darlington County on Dec. 26, according to online SCHP records. Coroner J T Hardee confirmed that Elizabeth Allen Commander, 40, died when the vehicle she was driving collided with a ditch on U.S. 401.
As of Dec. 27, 968 people have died on South Carolina highways, according to preliminary SCHP figures. That compares to 976 deaths on state roads during the same period in 2015.
