Wintry weather made for a catastrophic day in Woodson County Wednesday, with a pair of fatality accidents occurring 11 minutes apart.

Laura L. Hegwald, 47, was killed in the wreck, just south of Yates Center on U.S. 75 at 7:44 a.m.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Hegwald was southbound when she lost control of her 2007 Buick, which collided with the rear of a pickup driven by Michelle L.
