Longmont, CO : Suspected impaired driver causes seven-vehicle crash in Longmont on Wednesday, March 22nd 2017
A suspected impaired driver caused a seven-vehicle crash on Hover Street near Boston Avenue in Longmont on Wednesday evening.
Longmont Police Acting Sgt. Ed Tinkum said that a 26-year-old man was driving northbound on Hover at about 6:20 p.m. when he swerved into the center lane. The driver corrected but then struck the curb, which sent his white Honda over the sidewalk, where he struck a utility pole, went down an embankment and then struck a tree.
The man drove away but police made contact with him near the Roger's Grove parking lot. He and his passenger were taken to Longmont United Hospital. The man was already wanted on two warrants and now faces a DUI charge and possibly more charges yet to be determined, Tinkum said.
He said that when the man initially swerved into the center lane, it caused the driver of a southbound vehicle to stop, which caused a seven-car chain reaction crash.
Aside from the man who was arrested and his passenger, no one else was taken to the hospital.
