NORTHVILLE, NY : NY police officer accidentally killed while helping motorist on Monday, July 3, 2017
A part-time village police officer in the southern Adirondacks has been killed while helping a motorist who had hit a deer.
Bob Johnson, an officer in the village of Northville, died in a hospital after being hit by a car shortly after his shift had ended. Authorities say the fatal accident occurred just before 11 p.m. Monday in the town of Northampton while the 60-year-old Johnson was walking toward the injured animal on Route 30.
Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino says no charges will be filed against the 25-year-old driver of the car that hit Johnson.
Johnson, of Mayfield, had retired from the Gloversville Police Department and had been working part-time in Northville for several years.
