A pedestrian died Friday night on Interstate 17 near Camelback Road in a crash that closed northbound lanes of the freeway, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

DPS troopers closed the freeway while they were investigating the crash, which occurred just before 8 p.m. and involved a commercial vehicle, the agency said.

The crash did not involve any wrong-way activities, DPS said. No other details were provided.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said in a tweet about 9:45 p.m. that the HOV and left lanes were open; however, the right lanes remained closed because of the crash.
