Delray Beach, FL : Woman killed, man critical after Lexus being test-driven strikes motorcycle on South Dixie Highway in Delray on Wednesday, April 6, 2016
Charges were pending Thursday morning following a fatal crash between a motorcycle and a Lexus on Wednesday that left a woman dead and a man critically injured.
The woman and the man were taken as trauma alerts to Delray Medical Center, where the woman died, Delray Beach police said.
They were riding on a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle at about 3:30 p.m. on South Dixie Highway near Linton Boulevard, just as a mechanic at the Ed Morse Delray Toyota/Scion dealership was northbound on Dixie, test-driving the silver 2002 Lexus Sedan.
The mechanic lost control and veered into the southbound lanes and some dirt on the west side of the road, said Dani Moschella, spokeswoman for Delray Beach police. As the mechanic drove back onto Dixie, he collided with the southbound motorcycle.
Witnesses said the mechanic appeared to be speeding before the crash. He was questioned and released Wednesday night, city police said.
Police did not release the names of the motorcycle riders or the driver late Wednesday.
The crash closed area streets until about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.
