Two people died in a traffic crash that closed Highway 59 for nearly six hours Monday morning.
At 3:31 a.m., deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office were called to Highway 59 and Jacobs Road in the town of Milton, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
An initial investigation shows a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 23-year-old Milton woman was northbound on Highway 59 when it crossed the centerline and struck a Chrysler Town & Country van driven by a 34-year-old Stoughton woman.
The Jeep’s driver exited her vehicle and was standing on the side of the road when she was struck by a GMC Acadia driven by a 30-year-old Milton man. The man had swerved to avoid hitting the two cars in the road, according to the news release.
The Milton woman was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville where she later died, according to the news release.
The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in the van was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center. The passenger is listed in stable condition, according to the news release.
The driver of the Acadia was not hurt.
