Thayer, MO : Local teen seriously injured in one vehicle accident on Route W, west of Thayer on Saturday, May 14, 2016

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to an accident at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. A 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 headed westbound, ran off of the right side of the road on Route W, three miles west of Thayer. The vehicle overturned and the driver, 16-year- old Sammy Poulette of Mammoth Spring, was ejected from the vehicle. Poulette had serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Cox Hospital in Springfield. The totaled vehicle was towed by Wicker's of Myrtle.

Injuries Poulette had from the accident included five vertebrates being fractured and a bruised lung. Poulette underwent surgery at Cox South and is alert and doing well.

Poulette is being treated for slight pneumonia from being on a ventilator for numerous days. He is now off of the ventilator. He will have to wear a back brace for three to six months.
