Jacksonville Beach, FL : Woman killed in Jacksonville Beach crash on South Beach Parkway on Wednesday afternoon, November 26, 2014
Jacksonville Beach, Florida
Police said an elderly woman passenger died in a crash early Wednesday afternoon on South Beach Parkway when a tow truck backed into her car.
There were no other injuries.
Jacksonville Beach police said it happened just after 1 p.m. at the end of a driveway near the intersection of Osceola Avenue.
Witnesses said while backing up, the flatbed tow truck from Lee's Wrecker Service penetrated the passenger window of an oncoming car that was driving southbound.
"It's sad at anytime, but especially at this time of year, it's really sad," said Ken Kennedy. "People a lot of times don't pay attention backing out and sometimes cars come by and you don't even see them."
Officers were interviewing the tow truck driver and witnesses to try to determine just how it happened and if any charges would be filed against the driver.
Streets in the immediate vicinity were still blocked off at 5 p.m.
