Frederick, MD : Frederick County man killed in single-vehicle crash on Md. 26 on Thursday, January 19th 2017
A Frederick County man died Thursday after the car he was driving hit a tree along Md. 26, according to Maryland State Police.
Chester L. Stone Jr., 52, of the 4000 block of Reels Mill Road, was the only person involved in the crash, according to a state police press release.
Stone was driving a gold 1997 Nissan Maxima west on Md. 26 near Old Liberty Road east of Mount Pleasant when, for reasons still under investigation, the car left the road, ran over a road sign and struck a tree shortly after 11 a.m., according to Trooper Adam Oleyar, who responded to the crash scene on Thursday.
There were no initial witnesses to the crash, Oleyar said.
There was no evidence of braking before the crash, Oleyar said. Further information on the cause of the crash was not immediately available Thursday.
State police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Representatives from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the crash scene and plan to conduct an autopsy, Oleyar said.
The road was closed for about 15 minutes after the crash, then reopened in both directions, Oleyar said.
