Eau Claire, WI : Six people injured in two-vehicle crash in Stanley on Wednesday May 25, 2016.
Six people were injured Wednesday in Stanley after a motorist attempted to flee from police.
According to information released by the Stanley Police Department:
At about 4:11 p.m., a police officer was traveling south on McKnight Street from West First Avenue when he observed a vehicle northbound on McKnight that failed to stop for a stop sign at a railroad crossing on McKnight, south of West First.
While attempting to get in position to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the officer saw the vehicle traveling north at a high rate of speed and believed the operator was attempting to flee. The officer activated his squad car’s overhead emergency lights and its siren and began to pursue the fleeing vehicle.
The vehicle proceeded west on West Fourth Avenue/?Highway O from McKnight Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to negotiate a curve near Chapman Park, crossed the centerline and struck a Tender Care Transport bus head-on.
As a result of the crash, six individuals — occupants of the suspect vehicle as well as four occupants of the Tender Care Transport bus — were transported from the scene by ambulance to Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls and Mayo Clinic Health System and HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital, both in Eau Claire, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
