Fort Lauderdale,FL : Woman made girl, 12, drive before crash on June, Thursday 22th 2017
A woman is accused of making a 12-year-old girl drive her car, a ride that ended with a three-vehicle crash.
When the crash happened Tuesday evening in Port St. Lucie, the 12-year-old was driving, Brittney Powell, 20, was in the passenger’s seat and and two other children, 11 and 7, were in the back seat, police said.
Powell initially tried to get the 11-year-old to drive, but when the child refused, she made the 12-year-old get behind the wheel, police said.
“This is so irresponsible for this 20-year-old to make this 12-year-old drive the car. There's no reason for that,” said Frank Sabol, spokesman for Port St. Lucie police.
While heading to a gas station, the 12-year-old was turning at the intersection at Airoso Boulevard and St. James Drive and collided with another car, police said. The second car subsequently struck a third vehicle.
In all, seven people were hurt in the crashes, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening, according to police.
Powell was cited for allowing an unlicensed person to drive a car.
“I’m just happy that no one got seriously injured because you have a 2,500 pound car driving down the road,” said Sabol.
“It's just extremely dangerous and we're just happy no one was seriously injured.”
