Hopkinton, MA : Several people injured after a crash on Interstate 95 southbound in Hopkinton on Monday night, March 21, 2016
Five people were transported to the hospital following a police chase that ended in a crash on Interstate 95 southbound at exit 1 in Hopkinton Monday night.
Ashawy Fire Chief Ronnie Sposato told NBC 10 News two people were extricated from vehicles, including a Richmond officer.
Sposato also said one person was transported to the hospital via helicopter. Several rescues from surrounding areas, including Hope Valley and Westerly, were seen leaving the scene.
While two suffered serious injuries, three were treated for minor wounds.
State police said they received a call from Richmond police around 6:20 p.m. saying that they were involved in a chase. Hopkinton police then became involved in the pursuit.
Kevin Batzle saw two ambulances fly by his house in Westerly shorty after the accident happened.
"I just thought something bad had happened, like, there was an accident up here in Ashaway," said Batzle.
A van with New York plates ended up crashing into the trees off the exit during the chase.
Witnesses who arrived at the scene before NBC 10 said there were other cars involved in the crash, including a police cruiser.
While a portion of the highway was closed, the road was clear just after 9:30 p.m.
The crash is under investigation.
