Milwaukee, WI : Minor injuries reported in Plainfield Curve semi crash on Tuesday, Sep 8, 2015
A tractor-trailer heading northbound on Interstate 43/94 hit a wall in the Plainfield Curve about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said the truck actually broke through the wall, sending debris into the neighborhood.
Jeff Wetter said his girlfriend yelled for him after a loud crash near their home.
"She got out and just pointed that way and said, 'Look.' So that's when I saw the semi through the wall," Wetter said. "He punched the entire concrete wall, so he's just lucky that wall was there. He would have gone done below."
Other neighbors said if the truck driver had hit the concrete barrier just a few feet down, he possibly could have toppled over a light pole.
Autumn Mitschke said her house shook from the crash.
"We were trying to scream up there and see if he was OK but we couldn't get a response because we couldn't go up the wall to help," Mitschke said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The semi driver was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Three lanes remained closed as of 4:45 p.m.
Department of Transportation officials said the freeway would likely shut down overnight for repairs at some point.
