STOCKTON, CA : Two people killed in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday, July 6, 2017

A Bear Creek High School basketball player was one of the two people killed in a single-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 5 Thursday afternoon.

The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 16-year-old Malaysia Porter and 73-year-old Corenea Baker. Both were residents of Stockton.

The California Highway Patrol said Friday the crash happened at about 2:05 p.m. in the No. 1 southbound lane just north of Eight Mile Road.

A 2006 Chrysler Town and County minivan had four passengers and was being driven by a 39-year-old woman traveling about 70 mph in the No. 2 lane, the CHP said.

According to the report, the driver moved into the No. 1 lane and, for an undetermined reason, lost control of the Chrysler.

The minivan spun out of control and overturned in the No. 1 lane and center divider, authorities said. No other vehicles were involved.

As officers investigated the scene, clothes and shattered glass littered the pavement.

Three vehicles back from the minivan, Jim Shea was driving with his son back home to Los Angeles from an orientation at California State University, Sacramento.

Shea said one of the tires on the driver’s side of the minivan blew out, causing the vehicle to fishtail and become perpendicular to the road before rolling over twice.
