Johnston, RI : Woman killed, man in critical condition after pedestrian accident on Monday night, December 14, 2015

A woman struck by a car in Johnston Monday night has died.

Police say 54-year-old Sandra White, with a last known address in Cumberland, and 54-year-old Keith Nunes, were struck on Hartford Avenue around 10 p.m. They were each taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where Nunes remains in critical condition. White passed away Tuesday morning, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle that hit them, a 19-year-old male, did stop after the accident and is not facing any charges at this time. Police say he was not speeding or under the influence of drugs of alcohol.

Investigators say that rain and fog were factors in the crash, as well as the fact this it was dark out, White and Nunes were wearing dark clothing, and were not using a crosswalk.

Crews returned to the scene Tuesday to investigate further.

Police were unable to locate any of Nunes' family members and ask that anyone who may know him to contact the Johnston Police Department.
