An unidentified woman was killed Friday morning in a rollover crash on Highway 101 between Leggett and Piercy in northern Mendocino County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, a woman (whose age and city of residence was not disclosed) was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe south on Hwy. 101 just north of Bridges Creek Jan. 15 when she lost control of the vehicle shortly after 9 a.m. The SUV overturned several times before coming to rest in the roadway, blocking all lanes of travel.
The driver, who was reportedly not wearing her seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and was in the roadway when emergency personnel arrived on-scene. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the woman reportedly succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased.
Personnel from Caltrans, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and the Leggett Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the crash as well as the CHP, which is reportedly still investigating the crash and whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
The highway was reportedly closed for 20 minutes, then one lane was open for approximately three hours while investigators worked.
