A woman killed in a single-vehicle crash in Roebuck Friday morning was a food service worker for Spartanburg School District Six.
Authorities identified the Spartanburg woman as Joniqua Lavetta Smith, 35, of 1442 Dover Road Apt. B.
She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after her vehicle hit a patch of standing water on East Blackstock Road near Twin Creek Court.
The single-vehicle crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. Friday near Roebuck Elementary School.
Smith drove through a patch of standing water in the roadway causing her to lose control of her vehicle, said Trooper Joe Hovis of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The vehicle went into a spin and during the spin, Smith’s car door swung open and she fell out of the vehicle. She was struck by her own car as it was spinning, Hovis said.
She was not wearing a seatbelt, he said.
Smith’s dark-colored Honda sedan was towed away from the crash sitearound 9:30 a.m. when the roadway reopened to other motorists.
