Wakeeney, KS : 2 Ottawa teens killed after I-70 three vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on June 9, 2014
Two people were killed Monday afternoon when their car crossed the median and struck a semi in Trego County, about a mile east of Ogallah.
The driver, 17-year-old John Louis Smith, of Ottawa, was traveling east on I-70 at about 2:30 p.m. Monday when he lost control of his 2009 Pontiac. The vehicle entered the westbound lanes and struck the semi, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.
Smith and Alexis Woolsoncroft, 12, also of Ottawa, were transported to the Hays Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead. A third 17-year-old passenger was also taken to the hospital for injuries, according to the report.
After striking the semi, the Pontiac hit a third vehicle driven by a 54-year-old Derby man. The man was taken to Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a possible injury.
