CHATHAM, IL : Girard man dies in single-vehicle crash on Monday, December 12, 2016

A Girard man died early Monday when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a guard rail and overturned along Interstate 55 near Chatham.

The man was identified only as a 47-year-old male in a release by Illinois State Police District 9. The crash happened as the man was driving northbound on Interstate 55, when his 2007 black, Chevrolet pickup truck “for unknown reasons … left the roadway to the right, struck a guard rail and overturned,” the release said. The crash happened just south of Lake Springfield bridge, police say.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sangamon County Coroner’s office.
