Allen County, IN : Heritage High School student dead, others injured in fatal rollover crash on Friday, 2nd November 2018

One student was killed in a crash that followed an apparent drag race in southeast Allen County on Friday, police said.

Steve Stone, public information officer for the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, said his department was called just past 3 p.m. about a crash in the 9100 block of Wayne Trace, east of Marion Center Road.A

Stone confirmed that the crash victims were students at Heritage High School.

Two cars – one green, one gray – were reportedly traveling at high speed going northwest on Wayne Trace and taking up both lanes of traffic, Stone said.

The driver of a box truck traveling southeast tried to slam on the brakes and avoid the two vehicles, colliding with the gray car.

The gray car with six occupants rolled over several times. One of the gray car’s occupants died at the scene, Stone said. No one in the green car was hurt.

One passenger was flown by helicopter to a hospital in critical condition and another was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The three other passengers received minor injuries, he added.

The investigation will continue, Stone said.
