Jasper County, TX : 1 person dead after car strikes tree on Highway 63 near Sandy Creek Bridge on Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2016

Authorities have identified the victim of a one-vehicle crash in Jasper County Thursday afternoon.

Nelda Hadnot Bluitt, 62, of Jasper, was driving on Highway 63 near Sandy Creek Bridge when her car left the roadway, traveled into the woods and struck a tree, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

"The driver may have had medical issues which contributed to this fatal crash," Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release.

An investigation is ongoing, Davis said.
