Ypsilanti, MI : Deputy crashes motorcycle avoiding SUV in path on Wednesday, 21st September 2016
An Oakland County motorcycle patrol sheriff's deputy crashed and seriously injured himself Wednesday morning but is in stable condition, according to the sheriff's office.
"The deputy was on duty driving his assigned Sheriff's Office (motorcycle)," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "The deputy was traveling northbound on Newton (Road) approaching Richardson (Road) when a white GMC SUV failed to yield and turned left in front of him heading east on Richardson (Road)."
The deputy, a 46-year-old, 20-year veteran, avoided the SUV by laying his motorcycle down on the roadway at the intersection, at which time he was ejected.
The deputy suffered injuries to his face, legs, arms and an eye.
No charges have been announced against the other driver, a 61-year-old Commerce Township woman. Sheriff's officials say the crash remains under investigation.
