ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, IN : 10-year-old boy takes SUV, crashes into pond in St. Joseph County on Monday, 22nd April 2024

A 10-year-old boy is believed to be okay after police say he took a family member’s SUV and crashed it into a pond on Monday morning.

Officers were called just before 7:30 a.m. to a motor vehicle theft in the River Park area. Police were told that a 10-year-old boy had stolen a family member’s SUV.

As officers were responding, police received several calls about an SUV driving recklessly along Ironwood Drive, including a report of a hit-and-run at Ironwood Drive and Pleasant Street.

The SUV then traveled outside South Bend city limits. During this time, officers received a report of mailbox that had been struck near Fellows Street and Jackson Road.
