Gresham ,OR : Deadly crash into street light pole in NE Portland on Tuesday , August 18 2015

The driver that died in a crash early Tuesday morning was not wearing his seat belt when he hit the a light pole on Northeast Glisan Street, Portland Police said.

Neighbors living near 163rd and Glisan heard the crash and called police around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Medics were first on-scene and found the green Jaguar convertible had crashed into a street light on the south side of the road.

The 54-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he wasn't wearing a seat belt and it appears he was alone at the time.

Police officials aren't sure why the man crossed Glisan from the westbound lanes and ran into the pole. Speed and alcohol don't appear to be factors in the crash.

The man's name is being withheld until his family members are notified of his death.
